With the improvement of the quality of life, people can easily accumulate energy in daily life. How to motivate people to exercise daily to maintain health is already being a significant issue which is worthy of further study. We hope to design an entertainment app that helps users record their daily energy intake and exercise consumption, so that users can enjoy some fun rather than doing boring professional exercise guidance while achieving the purpose of recording.
According to the research, in the youth group, users always show a high motivation for the type of fitness of the game. After investigation, we summarised three reasons that most affected people's continuous exercise: laziness, busyness and boredom. Laziness is the nature of human beings, and we can hardly change this feature from the outside. For the second feature, external factors can't affect the job or learning busyness of each different user. Therefore, we focus our attention on the last factor. As a designer, how to integrate the boring daily exercise process into interesting and attractive elements has become the main goal of our project.
The main function of our app is to help users record daily calorie and exercise consumption values. We've added two game elements to motivate users to exercise for their health. The app consists of two main parts: diet and exercise. The highlight of this app is the integration of exercise and games, so that daily calorie intake and consumption become enemies, using the user's winning psychology in the game elements to enhance the motivation of exercise. In addition, the app includes other features such as healthy recipe recommendations, food calorie records, social conversations, and regular sports modes. Our target audience is young people between the ages of 15 and 35 who want to stay healthy through daily exercise but don't want to engage in professional physical activity.
We did the interviews about issues of health and exercise. Interview is a kind of efficient way for us to have a better understanding of users feeling and requirements, which could provide useful enlightenment for us in the health domain. And then we clarify the insights from edited interview transcripts. Many people thought that adding entertainment elements to the fitness application is a good idea.
We have done two workshops to facilitate our progress. The first one lets them show their opinions and communicate with each other about fitness applications. The purpose is to know other people’s thoughts about our concept and some comments about fitness cellphone applications related topics. From their feedback, we can avoid such drawbacks and mistakes that those applications have made. The second one is to test their satisfaction with our concept. In this workshop, we introduced our concept to invitees and let them gave some reflections for us. According to their advice, we add the recommended recipes.
Through the above research, we found that the lack of exercise motivation is one reason why users do not exercise. Through the study of previous literature, we find that entertainment can be used as an incentive point to stimulate user movement. After researching, most exercise app design concepts in the market focus on two points. One is a professional fitness app, another is a calorie-based app that records calories, and there are not many apps designed from the perspective of entertainment.
We set a survey to test our prototype because it is the most intuitive Visual way for us to know people’s attributes. From the survey, we got negative attributes on the whole application design and aesthetic setting, which means that we were keeping the design concept in the correct way. More than 80% of people gave a high score. It is suitable to keep it going in these two aspects. On the other hand, Around half of people thought it is not beneficial for them to keep healthy and it is not motivated enough. Combined with the last graph’s information that most people like entertainment exercise motivation, it is a good way to increase its entertainment elements to appeal to people.
6.1.1.1 Welcome interface,Login interface and sign on interface We will design a welcome page for the app. The main body of the welcome page is the logo, so the advantage of the design is simplicity. In about two seconds, our app will automatically jump to the login or sign on interface, and we are committed to creating a smooth interactive experience.
Through previous research, we learned that users often need to be impatient during the process of filling in this interface, but the app itself involves the necessity of privacy and user data extraction. We must set the Login page and sign on-page. To avoid the above problems, in the design process, we will simplify the details of the information filled out by the user. This process takes about 10-15 seconds for the user to complete.
6.1.1.2 Primary page
The primary level page is mainly divided into five parts. Home, diet interface, exercises interface, friend interface and hidden menu interface in the upper right corner.
6.1.1.3 Sub interface
- Homepage For the home page, we initially design a sub-interface, which will record the user's personal information in detail.
- Diet interface Dietary Interface We temporarily design an interface, and the subsequent design plan allows the user to click on the food icon in the interface to view the food calories. Although this app design is just an auxiliary function, we hope that the app's features include the user's needs more comprehensively.
- Exercise interface This interface is the primary function page of this app, which also reflects the mobile of this app. Because we will design a game in this interface group, we hope that we can use entertainment to motivate users to exercise.
- Friend interface This interface is the main feature page of the app, which reflects the sociality of the app. Because users can play games online with friends based on this app, this way to motivate users to exercise more.
- Top right additional interface In this interface, users can quickly add their daily diet intake through the icon in the upper right corner. Optimize the user experience and promptly and accurately record your daily ability intake.

6.2.1.1 Welcome interface, Login interface and sign on interface
In the lo-fi prototype, we will improve the logo and interface content.
6.2.1.2 Recording data interface
In this part, we also continue to improve the matching colour of the details of the interface, but It is important to note that here, we present two sets of designs. However, due to the consideration of the overall interface, for the purpose of simple design, we finally decided to use the four interfaces as the Recording data interface in the group meeting.
6.2.1.3 Sub-interface
- Homepage: We designed the game interface.
- Diet interface: We improve the diet icon.
- Exercise interface: The game interface is perfected.
- Friend interface: We have perfected the colour of the friend interface.
- Additional interface: It is worth noting that during the design of our lo-fi interface, two sets of solutions emerged. One is to use the previous record diet calorie and food recommendation interface. The other is to increase the ar scan part. The user can click the icon in the upper right corner to enter the are scanning interface. When the user scans the food, the calories of the food will appear on the screen. Which of these two options is chosen is in-depth, and we will decide based on the results of the assessment.

The display of the third prototype is as follows. The prototype is in the form of a mixture of XD and HTML, some of which can be implemented by clicking, but there are some features that are just simulation for technical reasons. It is worth mentioning that we made some changes compared to the second prototype. First, based on user interviews, we learned that understanding the usage of this app is not an easy task, especially in the two-game elements. Therefore, in this version, we added tips as a guide to help users understand how to use the rules of both games. Second, a monster health display feature has been added. This means that whenever the user eats the next food, the retro game on the corresponding Homepage will show the health value of calorie intake. Once the calorie intake is too high, the monster will attack the character. When the character's health drops to zero, today's game will end. The third change is that we hide other users' personal information. In the previous version, users can see other users' height and weight and achievements in the friend page. However, according to feedback, users claim that the data is their personal privacy, and they have the right to allow the information to be disclosed. Therefore, we hide the height and weight data on the personal interface.

Insights

For the entire process of making prototypes, we believe that there are some advantages and disadvantages. Based on the user's interview, the aesthetics of the prototype itself, the page setup, and the interaction method are positive in the evaluation feedback of the three prototypes.Second, our concept is more advanced. There are also many game type apps, but there are not many apps that combine the two. We found the shining point in the research of the paper and completed the whole process. Third, combine theory with practice. From the initial choice of domain to the establishment of concept, all processes are based on research. If we have enough time for another round of user evaluation and testing, I think the app's features such as the game mode will be further improved.
