❞ - The Merchant.
Terraria Overhaul completely reimagines melee combat, achieving more fast-paced gameplay and higher skill ceilings for Broadswords, Hammers, and Axes.
-
Melee weapons' dealt damage is now affected by the player's speed, rewarding active movement and discouraging staying still. It's recommended to combine attacks with dash-like accessories, as well as utilize jumping and gravity's benefits. The maximum damage multiplier possible to receive from movement is
x2.0
. -
Melee weapons that didn't already have an alternate attack can now perform Power Attacks via the alternate use button (right click). Power attacks take a short period of time to charge (depending on the weapon's base speed), but result in increased damage (fixed
x1.5
multiplier). It is best to perform them when approaching enemies, as charging them while enemies are close may result in taking damage. However, the charge can always be cancelled with a dodgeroll. -
Melee weapons can now be aimed at 360 degrees of precision, allowing players to hit enemies directly above and below them.
-
Melee weapons can now be used for air combat, as dealing damage to enemies will now grant players velocity, the direction of which is controllable with movement keys. It is now possible to "ride" a flying enemy such as a Demon Eye into the skies, continuously dealing increased damage due to the gained velocity. Players must be careful as to not die from fall damage after a good chain of mid-air hits. For that reason, it's recommended to utilize dodgerolls' fall damage reduction, by activating one right before hitting the floor.
-
Swinging a melee weapon now grants slight velocity to players, potentially increasing their reach. Power Attacks grant much more velocity than normal ones. Combining a well-timed Power Attack with a jump can be used to reach previously unreachable highs.
-
Any Power Attack dealt against an enemy with non-full health will become a Killing Blow whenever a bonus damage increase of
x1.5
is sufficient to kill the enemy. The bonus stacks with power attacks', crits', and Hack and Slash's damage multipliers.
Axes do not currently have unique mechanics. They may receive some in the future.
Hammers grant players more velocity than Broadswords when swung, but do not currently have unique mechanics. They may receive some in the future.
