Burati, D. (2021). Billboard Hot 100 - Full History (Version 3) [Data set]. https://www.kaggle.com/datasets/dylanburati/billboard-hot-100-full-history?resource=download
Contains the data from billboard-hot-100-tracks.csv combined with data for those associated songs from Spotify's Web API. Audio features data was collected back until 1970, although the original dataset dates to 1958, so roughly 12 years are absent from this file.
Averages (or counts occurances of, in the case of explicit music, major keys, and common time) all the available song data (full_dataset.csv) for each metric every week to get a broader picture of the week as a whole. A simple arithmetic mean is used. All tracks for a given week have the same weight in the calculation.
For each of the five decades in my dataset, I randomly selected 30 tracks. If there was too much uncertainty about an artist's identified gender or race, another track was randomly selected in order to maintain as much accuracy as possible. If there are any discrepancies in the dataset, I am happy to correct that in this project if you submit an issue.
