Introduction

This project is the result of module 1, of the Bootcamp in Data Science applied (second edition) proposed by Alura and apoint to some analisys about the numbers of hospitalization and deaths in brazilian states for dengue. The data are available by official website of Brazilian healthcare system DATASUS, the system are entirely free os any cost for anyone.

Based on this we'll analyse some datasets of dengue cases in all the regions and states of the country, seeking to answers and trying to understand the dynamic of the dengue cycles in Braazil. Dengue2

Data

The data used in this analysis was obtained from the DATASUS aplication TABNET, on May 22, 2021, and you can find them, here, on my repositorie. The datasets chosen is:

  • Number of Hospitalization for Dengue Cases ranges from January 2008 to March 2021: And this information is used to:
    • Compare all the regions;
    • And the most affected states from the 3 most affected regions
  • Number of Deaths for Dengue Cases ranges from January 2008 to March 2021: And this information is used to:
    • Compare all the regions;
    • And the most affected states from the 3 most affected regions

A detailed description of each datasets and its meaning is also provided in the DATASUS website, you can find here

Methodology

The datasets is analysed following the scale approximation logic, when the first moment we looking for the distribution of hospitalizations and deaths in the all regions, analysing the dates with more cases and comparing this dates in all the region. After that the most affected 3 regions, for the dengue (in this dates), are seletecd for the second part of this anylisis

The second part its searching for the most affected 2 states in the 3 regions selected before. At this point the same analysis made in the first part, for the regions will be replicated for the states, and the dates of the first and second part will be compared to each other.

With this we were able to made some conclusions about the variables observerd in the Conclusion

Tooling (Libraries and Technology)

This project are made in the python 3.8.5, used the Collab the cloud storage services of google, Google Collaboratory.The libraries used here, were:

  • Pandas, the main librarie of data analysis in Python, used to manipulate and help in statiscal conclusion about the datasets;
  • Matplotlib.pyplot, for plotting of the charts.

Conclusion

After the analysis about the numbers of deaths/hospitalization, we have arrived the following conclusions:

  • The 3 regions more affected by the dengue cases from January 2008 to May 2021, were: Northwest, Southwest, and Midwest. And about this 3 regions we still observed that the 2 states with more numbers of deaths and hospitalizations is:

    • Northewest: Bahia and Ceará;
    • Southwest: São Paulo and Minas Gerais;
    • Midwest: Mato Grosso do Sul and Goiás.
  • Observing the curves of the regions, we conclused that dengue cases in Northwest take the second position in between 2011 and 2013, in this years Southwest take the lead. Meanwhile, the Midwesth curve has grown in 2018 getting to match with the Northwest curve in the following years.

  • Now when we looking to the curves of states, 4 states lead the number of cases to death and hospitalization are they:

    • São paulo
    • Minas Gerais
    • Bahia
    • Goiás
  • Another conclusion that we made, is that the number of hospitalization and deaths in Brazil, is bigger in the first semester than the second semester. This fact, its probably related to the climatics changes and the beginning of rains cycles thats happen in the first months in the country.

  • Finally, it was conclude in the period that started in 2008 and goes to 2020, the concentration of the dengue cases it was more expressive in 5 years:

    • 2010
    • 2013
    • 2015
    • 2016
    • 2019

This project as said before, was proposed as a first project in the Alura's Bootcamp, as an introduction to the Data Science world.
