We currently have the ability to configure routing rules via config, e.g. via a configmap in Kubernetes but for cluster config we have to go via the API.

This is a request to have the ability to add clusters via configuration

Thats is a major feature we do want to get to eventually. We initiated talks to get a K8s operator in Trino and then create an API in Trino Gateway that can call it.. however nothing has moved on that side.

We could already implement an API and then you could plug in your own tooling that does the actually provisioning however nobody is working on that. Feel free to think about it some more and maybe work towards sending a pull request if you get your own version working.

For starters it could be asking existing clusters to scale up or down..
