1.17 is fairly ancient and one of the points of this process is to get us building on something supported.

Current latest Go in Helios is 1.22...

I've pushed what I have so far to iliana/go-122. There is still some significant work to be done.

I sort of wish this code did not care so much about the internals and implementation details of Go, but I suppose I don't blame it either...
