Working

      val eaten = match char {
        case 0x20 -> eatWhitespace(self) // space
        case 0x9  -> eatWhitespace(self) // \t
      }

Not working

      val SPACE = 0x20
      val TAB = 0x20

      val eaten = match char {
        case SPACE -> eatWhitespace(self) // space
        case TAB   -> eatWhitespace(self) // \t
      }
