How will this Foundation Mission Request help accomplish the above Intent?
In order for Interop to succeed we need users to be excited and informed about the happenings of the Superchain. Additionally, users need to be onboarded and helped through common issues. SupNERDs also moderate community spaces, keeping users safe.
What is required to execute this Foundation Mission Request?
The SupNERDs consist of independent community members who volunteer to support and grow the Optimism community. This season's mission for SupNERDs has been significantly modified from the previous season. These modifications were done in collaboration with existing SupNERDs to improve both their experience, and the quality of contributions.
Changes can be summarised as the addition of two (2) Lead SupNERDs who will manage SupNERD contributions and tracking. The number of SupNERDs has been reduced to four (4) inline with nerds feedback from S6. This season will also introduce SupNERD-Reserves. Reserves will be able to move up into SupNERDs if a nerds activity drops below the acceptable minimum. There is also the addition of opportunity lists to be maintained by SupNERDs & SupNERD-reserves. There is also a pool reward available to SupNERDs, Leads & Reservers based on expectational contributions.
All applicants need to meet the following criteria:
Complete and pass KYC. This is a requirement to get the SupNERD, Lead or SupNERD-Reserve role.
Only contributors with these roles will be able to contribute towards the resource lists.
Been a member of the Optimism Discord for at least 3 months.
This is a requirement for the SupNERD role. Reserves who would like to be considered for the SupNERD role will need to complete it before being considered.
Applicants will be selected based on past activity and quality of engagement, in collaboration with Leads insights.
This season will feature two (2) SupNERD Leads.
Leads will:
Monitor & record SupNERD contributions and activity.
Provide feedback to SupNERDs regarding contributions, ticket support, conflict de-escalation, fact checking answers, etc.
Create and maintain a SupNERD FAQ list to assist nerds in finding the right answer quickly.
Manage and record contributions to resource lists, ensuring there are no duplicates, that only the first nerd submission is counted and that opportunities are real, live, and on an OP Governed Chain.
Leads will not change throughout the course of the season. Each lead will receive 2,000 OP (after a year lock period from the start of this mission) so long as the lead meets the minimum activity outlined for SupNERDs, as well as keeping their various resources/tracking up to date.
Should a lead become inactive they will only be rewarded proportionally to their active weeks.
Should a lead become inactive, they will only be replaced if there is a SupNERD with high activity, context and engagement, otherwise the program will continue with a single lead.
This season will see a drastic reduction in the number of SupNERDs, in line with feedback from active supNERDs. This will help by increasing rewards for active nerds, as well as prevent low engagement farming of the program. There will be four (4) SupNERDs this session.
Assist new users in finding applications that interest them, helping them find relevant resources and answering their questions.
Support the community.
Answering questions, claiming and resolving tickets, directing users to relevant platforms and docs, (for example developer questions to the TechNERDs, etc). Nerds who claim and close tickets without resolving the user's issues will be penalised. Repeated incidents may result in the loss of their role.
Assist in the creation & maintenance of the “Superchain Opportunities" lists. See SupNERD-Reserves for more info.
Each of the 4 SupNERD will receive 1,500 OP proportional to the number of weeks they are active (after a year lock period from the start of this mission) .
Should a SupNERD need to take time off (life happens) they can give notice to the leads for how long they will be away. During this time the next qualifying Reserve nerd will take their place for those weeks. After the specified time they will be able to return to their role, and the reserve will move back to being a reserve.
Should a SupNERD become inactive for one (1) week or fall below activity minimum for one (1) week they will lose their role and become a reserve. The next qualifying reserve will take their role.
NERDs who are found to be closing tickets without resolution, speaking inappropriately with users, discussing price or market movements, sharing or failing to remove scams or spam, or otherwise abusing or acting unprofessionally in their role may have that week's activity struck. Depending on the severity of the violation and the number of previous violations the NERD may lose their role or be banned from future participation in the program.
SupNERD-Reserves will:
Reserves should maintain their activity and trained status to be selected as a SupNERD should an existing member become inactive.
Create and maintain two (2) “Superchain Opportunities" lists. There is a total pool of 2,500 OP for resources. This caps the resource lists at 250 resources across both lists. Rewards will only be distributed after a year lock period from the start of this mission.
User OPportunities: focused on users incentives across the Superchain (OP Governed Chain) such as incentive programs, competitions, bounties, etc.
Developer OPportunities: focused on developer incentives Superchain (OP Governed Chain) such as grants, growth incentives, marketing opportunities, etc.
Addition of a resource will be rewarded with 10 OP. As these lists are maintained by the community they are considered community resources. As such users and developers should do their own research and exercise caution.
Only the first addition of a resource will be rewarded. Leads will be in charge of managing this.
Opportunities can only be added to one list (not both).
NERDs will be expected to do some basic research around a project before adding it to the list. Incentives or opportunities added that can be “reasonably” identified as scams or phishing projects may result in the NERD losing the ability to contribute to the list or claim rewards related to list contributions.
“Reasonable” is defined as a basic google or twitter check. Obviously there are a lot of sophisticated scammers, we do not expect NERDs to audit or do in depth research, however, basic checks should be completed before adding. If a nerd is uncertain they can raise it at the next weekly call to get feedback from Leads and other nerds.
All SupNERDs (Leads, nerds & Reserves) will:
There is a pool of 4,500 OP available to all NERDs (Leads, nerds & Reserves) to be allocated at the end of the season based on the below criteria. Rewards are only distributed after a year lock period from the start of this mission.
Due to credible reports of reward farming, the reward "entries" will be based on successful active weeks as a SupNERD. NERDs who had already received entries into the Vital members will be honoured as entries. This activity bonus will be distributed proportionally to nerds who meet the “Vital member” criteria from the TogetherCrew bot. Each week the NERD meets this criteria will count as an entry to the pool. At the end of the season the pool will be allocated to the nerds proportional to the number of entries. Should the TogetherCrew bot break or change in a way that is no longer compatible with this reward structure, a back up criteria will be assembled combining messages, ticket closures and ratings, support quality and other relevant metrics.
The critical milestone should be a measure of whether an applicant has made best efforts to execute what is outlined in this proposal or not. If an applicant fails to achieve the critical milestone, their grant may be clawed back.
SupNERDs maintain two lists of active incentives for users and developers. By the start of S8, there should be at least 50 added opportunities for users, at 25 for developers. Resources should only be added for OP Governed Chains (see the Superchain Registry for more info).
Increase in overall SupNERD activity compared to last season (S6 average 59 messages a week) a decrease in difference between the highest and lowest SupNERD contributions (S6 gap was ~380 weekly, ~8,000+ over the course of S6 mission).
How should the Foundation measure progress towards this Mission Request?
Token House milestones are mostly about accountability, so they should measure progress towards completion.
Increase in the number of “Active Members” in the discord (through the TogetherCrew bot metrics).
Increase participation of incentives included in resource lists.
Please note: All of the contributor roles and associated rewards described here are intended for independent and engaged community members who volunteer to provide their knowledge and expertise to the Collective and receive an honorarium in the form of OP. These volunteers are not employees of the Collective, the Foundation, or any of its affiliates for any purpose.

Note that SupNERDs only maintain their role if they maintain activity minimums. Failure to meet activity minimums will result in the loss of their role to the next qualifying vital member or reserve.
