Let Me Tell You a Story About Storytelling

As technologists, especially in software development, what we do is a creative act. In some ways, it's unfortunate that the language of engineering has so attached itself to what we do, because building software is the act of creating, not the act of construction.

As technology leaders, a huge part of our job is communication, and how we approach that communication can have a big impact on how the message is received.

One of the strongest tools in our toolbox (and one that is often neglected), is our ability to craft stories. Stories are magical things that have the ability to communicate complex ideas in a concise manner, maintaining a captivating thread that can bind your thoughts together into a cohesive narrative.

In this talk, I'll share some techniques for flexing your "story muscles", and ways to incorporate storytelling into your communications repertoire.
