We are developing a set of terms to describe the design and capabilities of the pycinema software. One reason for this is that pycinema is a higher level framework for developing applications, scripts and other capabilities. Here is a set of terms that are proposed for organizing the software.
pycinema is a filter-based toolset for developing scripts and end-user applications that operate on Cinema databases
Cinema:Designer is a pycinema GUI-based application that lets users visually construct and save scripts using a node graph (to connect and set up filters) and various data views (connected to specific filters in the graph). The results can be saved as a script that Cinema:Designer can open and execute (see below).
a Cinema workspace is a definition of a filter graph, views and GUI settings that defines a specific setup in Cinema:Designer. A workspace allows a user to interact with a set of input data (typically cinema databases) in an expected way. One way to think about this is that these workspaces are the new versions of 'viewers' for Cinema. For example, we define an Explorerer workspace that implements an application very similar to the current Cinema:Explorer viewer. There is also a View workspace that implements the Cinema:View viewer (see below).
