It's only me that think NewPipe playing only audio and ignore video could be an amazing feature?

That's app already does when you switch to another app while playing a video OR press background button (the headphone symbol) below video title.

That can't count. Because video data is still being transfered.

You're wrong, except for livestreams, where some code in the app is missing to trigger disabling video tracks and their fetching in the background player "real" mode (for HLS livestreams used first if available, this will have no effect due to ExoPlayer limitations).

There are also some rare edge cases when a service only provides video streams with embedded audio (it was the case a long time ago on PeerTube for example), in this case we have to fetch the stream containing audio and video.
