Check version

  • I'm running the latest version of Path of Building and I've verified this by checking the changelog

Check for duplicates

  • I've checked for duplicate open and closed issues by using the search function of the issue tracker

What platform are you running Path of Building on?

Windows

How is Path of Building expected to behave?

PoB should function correctly after the recent patch.

How does Path of Building behave?

Loading up PoB Beta version 2.50.1 causes a crash during automated update check. Can be reproduced by manually checking for an update.

How to reproduce the issue

  1. Load PoB
  2. Patch to the latest Beta release
  3. Reload PoB with new assets
  4. Wait for an automatic update check / manually check for updates

I'll just add that I have been using the same PoB community fork client for long years. This is not a fresh install.

Does this happen only with the beta or release also? There's a known issue with legacy installs that ended up going into ProgramData. Are you okay with reinstalling?

Of course I am. I am not at home atm; are build saves stored safely or need to be backed up?

They shouldn't be touched by the installer/un-installer but you should back them up regardless.

I am also receiving this error, also from an existing old install that was updated to 2.50.1.
it is installed in program files x86

I get the reported error when clicking update while a build is open.

If I back out of a build and then try to update it gives me a simple 'manifest.xml invalid' error.

Upon investigating, both manifest.xml and manifest.cfg are missing.
redownloading the two files from git and retrying causes the same errors, but the two files still exist and are unchanged

Uninstalling and then reinstalling 2.51.0 worked fine, and the update button now reports that there are no updates available

I had the same issue on non-beta branch and can confirm that simple reinstall worked. Saves were also untouched as already mentioned.

Same error around here, I did a new install over my old install and still erroring when checking for updates

Same issue, reinstall didn't achieve anything unfortunately.

@Chuuninz @vaughnad Where do you have PoB installed now? Is it in a directory that contains Unicode characters? What error message are you getting?
