Check version

  • I'm running the latest version of Path of Building and I've verified this by checking the changelog

Check for duplicates

  • I've checked for duplicate open and closed issues by using the search function of the issue tracker

What platform are you running Path of Building on?

Windows

How is Path of Building expected to behave?

PoB should update or launch after installing.

How does Path of Building behave?

I reviewed a crash that was similar around the 2.39 to 2.40 builds. I've used PoB with latest updates fine until trying to update today. When I tried updating to the latest build, the PoB interface crashed. Downloading the latest build and installing seems to complete. However, when I launch the application, nothing happens and the application removes itself from the installed path and the download also disappears. Trying to reinstall comes up with error about the executable to run the application that quickly disappears. Trying to redownload comes up with an error that permissions are not valid to copy to the directory. A reboot is needed to reattempt the download and install but yields the same results

How to reproduce the issue

Download the application
Install
Try to run the application either from the final window of the install or manually after installation

Same problem I'm having, but with added problems, Norton anti-virus and Windows defender considers update 2.50 a virus but not any other versions. Its actively saying it's been infected, even when placed in exceptions, its being blocked from launching.

@Qlmores:

PoB 2.51.1 works fine on my Win10 install, Defender doesn't report anything, and I have no exceptions for PoB configured.

VirusTotal analysis for the main executable (as below) shows 4 detections out of 72, at least one of which is caused by Machine Learning false positives.

Now that I've re-read both your reports again, I suspect they might be separate issues. Reading ftw.

@Nightblade: should I keep the issue in here or report it as separate issue?

Edit:Thanks Nightblade, it was purely a antivirus problem, although I did see the same issue from updating it from my numerous attempts before anti-virus took control.

@Qlmores If your main issue is antivirus (and it sounds like it is), then sadly it makes no difference as there's nothing the PoB team can do about it anyway. If it were me I would uninstall Norton Anti-Virus and try again.

Hey, I'm running on the exact same issues as @JakeResko, any updates on this ?
It first appeared when I tried to update my version of PoB but when I started the update my soft shut down and was already deleted. When I try to download (tried both versions .exe and portable) it again I'm facing the exact same wall as OP. It doesn't seem that my firewalls are the problems as I tried to disable everything that could cause such issues installing. Also asked GPT to help but nothing worked.

@Bulmassj I can only suggest you try this: #8473

@Wires77 Wires77 closed this as not planned Won't fix, can't repro, duplicate, stale Feb 20, 2025
