[Developer Issue]: FAQ for transitions to FIMS #2
Comments
+1 on the web. @msupernaw mentioned that he initiated the effort during a seaside chat meeting. See issue NOAA-FIMS/FIMS#539 |
Related to the model transition topic is the issue of continued support for users of existing models while features of FIMS are being developed. This is necessary for an orderly transition. Continued support for SS3 was an explicit request from some users in early 2020 as the Science Board began contemplating launching the FIMS project. |
Is anyone willing to translate this the above Google Doc to markdown by December 31, 2024? |
I can help out! Let me know where the markdown should be saved. |
Thanks @k-doering-NOAA ... I think that the best place to put it is on the noaa-fims.github.io. If you add the .md file in a branch I can add the infrastructure to render the md file on the page. I will also transfer this issue to that repository. |
We will create a SS3 facing companion document as well. In the SS3 community, we are talking about user support for SS3 during the 3 to 10+ years during which SS3 is likely to be used for assessments. Usage is still growing internationally. |
Issue details
I get the question enough of why one would use FIMS over/to replace SS3 and on what timeframe that I think it is worth a write up that is publicly accessible with input from @Rick-Methot-NOAA (or other SS3 development team members). I believe we have it a bit in the FIMS TOR and in the manuscript, but IMO we need a living version on the web also.
